Offline Google Maps: A Quick Guide to Downloading and Managing Google Maps for Offline Driving Directions

Google appears today as a friend, a philosopher and a guide! Whether it’s going to a restaurant or a nearby grocery store, Google Maps is used by everyone. Google maps help us navigate and reach our destination; but then we need to have a data connection.

But have you wondered what you would do if you went to a place with weak internet connection? Google Maps now offers a range of features that will help you navigate without a data connection simply by downloading Google Maps first. It provides a much better offline experience for users by allowing them to use options like turn-by-turn navigation, location searches, and property information without an internet connection.

How to download Google Maps for offline use:

You can now download Google Maps in advance for online use and it will give you a hassle-free and uninterrupted experience even when traveling in a weak reception area.

Here’s how to download a Google map on Android or iOS:

Step 1: You need to open Google Map and just search for the location you want to save. Make sure you’re signed in to your Google account.

2nd step: You will see that the map will scroll to show the location you have searched. When the search location appears, you need to tap on the location name at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3: Under the address you need to scroll to the right and press “download”

Step 4: Select the download option and confirm it by pressing Download again. You will also need to choose the size of the region you want to record.

Manage and navigate Google Maps offline:

After downloading a Google map, you can simply search for a location in that region without a data connection. This Google Maps feature will help you navigate with turn-by-turn directions in the area.

By selecting offline maps on the top right, you can manage the location you want. You have the option to update, delete or rename according to your choice.

Offline Google Map Limitations:

Google Maps offline has some limitations. For example, you will not be able to download walking or cycling directions when using downloaded directions. Another constraint of offline Google Map is that you won’t have access to traffic directions and regular updates, alternative routes or lane guidance.

Also, if there is a route change, Google Maps will not alert you. You should also check the storage capacity of the city before downloading a Google map. In cases such as contractual limitations and language support, downloading offline is not an option.
